131 Ponce de Leon Avenue , also known as Gulf Oil Building , is a building in Midtown Atlanta, on the southeast corner of Ponce de Leon Avenue and Juniper Street, as well as the name of the development planned mixed-use that will incorporate parts of the Pei building façade and add 321 apartments and 8,600 square feet (800 m 2 ) of retail space.
The building was the first project of the architect I. M. Pei, built in 1949, a four-story, four-story square (4,600 m) tiered ceiling that gave rise to the slim plain of Mies van der Rohe.
The proposed mixed-use development will incorporate entire blocks bounded by Ponce de Leon Avenue, North Avenue, Piedmont Avenue and Juniper Street, except for St. Paul. A joint venture between real estate investment company Sereo Group Inc. and developer Faison Enterprises bought a 2.5-hectare site (10,000 m 2 ) in 2012.
In 2008, the block had been proposed to be redeveloped as a "Fountain on Ponce" complex, but the project was unsuccessful.
The building was destroyed in February 2013, but the Atlanta Preservation Center stated that it was his understanding that some façade should be "raised as a shell" and incorporated into new complexes.
