Camber Sands is a beach in Camber village, East Sussex near Rye, East Sussex, England. It is the only sand dune system in East Sussex, and east of the mouth of the Rother River in Rye Bay that stretches as a stretch beyond the Kent border.

Dunes

Most of the western end of the dunes are located within the Celtic Sands and Rye Saltings, Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) areas, while the remainder are designated as Sites of Importance of Nature Conservation. Second World War and eastward

The dunes are enriched and used for training in the Second World War. There is an area of ​​MoD danger that is approximately square and inland base to the east of the area. Parking

There are three main car parks in Camber, a Western car park on New Lydd street which also has a huge overflow car park opposite, a Central car park, and a new car park on a crazy old golf site on Old Lydd street. The center also has a large overflow car park. Only Central has direct access to the beach, as you have to negotiate past long steep sandy paths on the sand dune to reach the beach from the western car park, unsuitable for strollers, or wheelchairs. The Western car park closes at 8 pm in the summer.

Camber Sands Station

Camber Sands railway station is the end of Rye and Camber Tramway. Opened on 13 July 1908 and closed, with a line, in September 1939.

Sports activities

This beach has become a popular location for kite surfing, kite and buggying kites due to sand and favorable wind conditions. The kite launch is only allowed in the designated area at the eastern end of the beach near Jury's Gap parking lot.

Movies

The beach was used in the 1958 Dunkirk movie starring John Mills to recreate Operation Dynamo. They were used again as a Normandy beach during D-Day in the epic 1962 The Longest Day .

Follow That Camel was shot here during the early months of 1967, with Camber Sands representing the Sahara Desert, although the shooting had to be stopped several times because the dunes were covered in snow.

The Monuments Men shot here in early 2013, starring George Clooney and Matt Damon.

The Invisible Woman (filmed in 2012, released in 2013), a period drama about the life of Nelly Ternan, has several scenes on the sand.

The Theory of Everything , about Stephen Hawking's life, including scenes in sand and dunes.

Television

The Camber Sands holiday resort is 'seeded' in an episode of teen comedy E4 The Inbetweeners . though no filming really happened there. It was also featured in Series 2 of the Green Wing. Alan Statham and Joanna Clore appear on the beach at the weekend as well as at Park Resort Holiday Park. The dunes were featured in the 2010 advertisement for 'Walls'.

Camber Sands was planet Aridius in 1965 Doctor Who story The Chase , and then in 1986 was the filming location for a scene in the final two parts of the story Trial of the Time God , as part of the elaborate illusion produced by the Valeyard in the Matrix.

All Tomorrow Feasts (music festivals) take place at the Pontins holiday camp in Camber Sands. Visual art

The famous Boyle Family artist made their first few casts using resin and fiberglass on the beach at Camber Sands in 1966.
