Hellshire Beach , Jamaica, is located near Portmore, and is famous for its fried fish and a safe pool. It is near white sand with very small black sand. Affected when there is a sea that runs to the south, the waters close to the beach are often cloudy because the sand is stirred.
This is a popular public beach strategically located for residents of Portmore and weekend visitors from Kingston.
Once called "Healthshire" because of its reputation as a health retreat its name has evolved into "Hellshire" although both pronunciations are technically correct.

There is a section with life guards and a swimming area that floats about 200 m long. It has a converted/showered facility which is kept quite clean. It has a number of tables and benches under the shade of a grapenut tree and there is a fish and bar restaurant.

Further west there is free entrance to the beach and here there are a large number of fried fish and other kiosks.
