John Edward Anderson (September 12, 1917 - July 29, 2011) is the president and sole shareholder of Topa Equities, Ltd. Anderson oversees over 40 wholly-owned subsidiaries in industries such as agriculture, automotive dealerships, insurance, real estate, oil, and wholesale distribution of beverages. In 2006, he was ranked # 189 on the Forbes magazine list of the 400 richest Americans, with a net worth of $ 1.9 billion. He made charitable donations to the University of California, Los Angeles, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, and other Southern California educational institutions during his lifetime. Anderson died of pneumonia at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Initial years

Anderson was born on September 12, 1917 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is the son of a barber. Anderson is his high school graduation speech giver. Anderson also earned the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts of America in 1931. He followed UCLA from 1936 to 1940, played in an ice hockey team, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor's degree in business administration. While at UCLA, he is a member of Theta Pi Beta Brotherhood. He then studied at Harvard Business School on a scholarship, graduating with MBA after World War II broke out. When at Harvard, he was a scholar George Fisher Baker. Anderson entered the military on the admiral's staff, and passed the CPA exam when in the Navy. Anderson continued his post-war education, obtained his JD from Loyola Law School in 1950. He graduated first in his class at Loyola, and was offered a full-time teaching position. For the next 25 years, Anderson taught at law school in the morning and evening when he worked at his law firm.

Careers

Anderson is the founding partner of Kindle & amp; Anderson's law firm in 1953. On April 1, 1956, Anderson founded Ace Beverage Co. with exclusive rights to distribute Budweiser in Los Angeles, California. In 1980, he founded Topa Properties, Ltd., which has high-rise office buildings in Los Angeles, Ventura County, California, and Honolulu, as well as a large number of properties in the US Virgin Islands. Its portfolio includes 4,000,000 square feet (370,000 m 2 ) of commercial properties and 4,500 housing units. He created a new Silver Star car dealer group in Thousand Oaks, California, including Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, Jaguar, and Range Rover. He is chairman of the Metropolitan YMCA Los Angeles, trustee and former president of Saint John's Hospital and Foundation Health Center and guardian of Claremont McKenna College. Anderson was on the Visitor Board at the Anderson Management School, named after him. Anderson also teaches several business courses at UCLA.

Anderson received the Southern California Entrepreneur award in 1987 and the Principal Entrepreneur of the Year in 2002. He is honored as a Business Person this year by the U.S. Business Hall of Fame in 2002.

Philanthropy

Among his charitable efforts, Anderson and his wife Marion donated more than $ 50 million for the construction of a new building for Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, where Marion Anderson is a board member. Starting in 1987, Andersons donated 42 million dollars to the University of California, Los Angeles.

Anderson received the Distinguished Service Award, Loyola Law School in 1985. Two years later, in 1987, the UCLA Graduate Management School was renamed the John E. Anderson Management School after he donated $ 15 million. He received the Philanthropist Individuals Achievement at the National Philanthropy Day award ceremony in 1989 He also received the UCLA Alumnus of the Year award and UCLA Medal in 1995. Personal life

In 1942, Anderson married his UCLA lover, Margaret Stewart, and they had five children. Margaret died of cancer in 1965, and she married Marion in 1967. Her daughter Debbie died at the age of seventeen in a car accident in 1969. Anderson's son, John, Jr. is executive vice president of Topa Equities, Ltd., her daughter Judith runs a farm farm in Ojai, California. His sons also manage the distribution of family drinks and automotive business. He lives in the East Gate Bel Air section of Los Angeles, California.

Death and inheritance

Anderson died on July 29, 2011. He has 15 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Her widow Marion ran Marion & amp; John E. Anderson Foundation Foundation. On May 14, 2015, he donated $ 100 million to UCLA Anderson. He died on May 14, 2017.
