Mala Mala is a game reserve located within Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Mpumalanga province, South Africa. It is the largest and oldest of the five largest private game reserves in South Africa, it covers about 130 km² or 15,000 hectares of land. At Xitsonga, the name Malamala means Kudu, so named because of the abundance of these animals in the backup game. The Tsonga people, who occupied the land before the formation of game reserves, were forcibly expelled from this land during the early 1900s and dumped at Bushbuckridge. The Nwandlamhlarhi community successfully claimed the game of Malamala was reserved and the land was returned to them in 2015 when President Jacob Zuma handed over their land in a Government ceremony. The Tsonga were also forcibly expelled from neighboring reserves such as Skukuza, Satara, Ulusaba, Manyeleti, Kruger Gate Protea Hotel, Hoyo Hoyo Tsonga Lodge, and probably more at Southern Kruger. The Tsonga people are still waiting to be re-given these lands by the Government after finalizing their land claims.
The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is bordered by Kruger National Park, which along with several other parks form the Great Kruger National Park.
