Sabi Sand Game Reserve is located adjacent to Kruger National Park in Lowveld of Mpumalanga, South Africa. Officially named Sabi Sand Wildtuin, Sabi Sand Game Reserve consists of a group of private game reserves. Newington's Gate is on 24Ã, Â ° 52? 9? S 31Ã, Â ° 24? 16? E and west of Kruger Gate and Skukuza camp in Kruger Park. Other entrances are the Gowrie Gate at the north end and Shaws Gate to the south.
The name of the park comes from the Sabie River on the southern border and the Sand River flowing through it. The reserve area is 65,000 hectares (650Ã, km 2 ) and it shares a 50.0 km (31.1 mi) non-gated boundary with the Kruger National Park to the east. The Tsonga people, who occupied the land before being forced out by the colonial Government in the early 1900s, are now reclaiming the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Wildlife
Some of the animals that roam are lions, African forest elephants, Cape buffalo, African leopard, and rhinoceros. Collectively these animals are also known as the "Big Five". Other animals that roam with this reserve are cheetahs, hippopotamus, wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, hyenas, and Cape wild dogs. It is the home of Tjololo, the famous leopard. The reseve shares thousands of different plant varieties and all animal species with the famous Kruger National Park. This is home to 45 species of fish, 500 species of birds, 145 animal species, and 110 species of reptiles.

Accommodation
Accommodation consists of various camps and lodges. Some areas of accommodation and facilities are only for private use by landlords and stockholders, while others are rented out to the public at daily rates at steep prices. This price structure is not considered excessive in the market, taking into account the exclusivity of the reserve and that it is one of only a few of the original 'native wilderness' left in South Africa, but still close to developed infrastructure such as towns, shopping centers and sandy roads.
The nearest airport is Skukuza airport in eastern Pasir Sabi, right inside Kruger National Park and regular commercial flights can be boarded from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport just outside Nelspruit.
