Westlake High School (also known as Westlake High, Westlake, or WHS ) is a public high school in the Westlake Neighborhood Village in Thousand Oaks, in Ventura County, California. Westlake High School has classes 9-12 in the Conejo Valley Unified School District. The middle schools that feed Westlake include Colina Middle School and Los Cerritos Middle School.
The first graduation class was a class in 1980. The first principal was William Albers. All students entering Westlake High School in 1979 signed a charter, which sits in the office today. Ron Lipari was the head of WHS school for 15 years. In 2015, Jason Branham was elected as the new principal.

Academics
Ratings
Newsweek has consistently rated the WHS as one of the high schools in the United States. By 2015, Westlake High is ranked 210 high schools in the United States and the best 26th high school in the state of California by Newsweek. By 2015, the average value of Westlake on the Advanced Placement exam is 3.65. By 2016, Westlake is ranked 119th high school in the United States and the best 15th high school in the state of California.
This is one of four high schools in the Conejo Valley Unified School District, which consistently has an above average AP and SAT score, and 96% of senior graduates continue to attend some kind of lecture or further education.
Academic team
Westlake High School is home to several academically organized teams, including: VEX Robotics, Academic Decathlon, Mock Trial, Science Olympiad, FBLA, and HOSA. In 2016, Westlake High School won the Decathlon Ventura District Academy for the fifth year in a row.
Advanced anatomy
Westlake High offers a course called Advanced Anatomy. In the course, students work on human corpses. Nancy Bowman, a physiology teacher, started the program in 1990. In 1994, the school was the only school with a second year program in advanced anatomy. Jordan Michaels, co-founder of Ringadoc, participated in the program. By 2015, Dr. Ira Byock speaks to the honorary class of the Law of Death With Dignity.

Athletics
Westlake High School offers a wide range of sports and activities, including soccer, basketball, cross country, tennis, volleyball, cheerleading, water polo, soccer, wrestling, lacrosse, softball, swimming, and track and field. Many Westlake athletics teams compete in the Marmonte League in the Southern Section of the CIF, and are known as Warriors.
Aquatics Program
From 1995-1999, the men's swimming team won five consecutive Marmonte League titles. In 2001, WHS opened a water sports complex on campus. In 2014, the WHS boy's swimming team has won three Marmonte League titles in person. WHS grad Veronika Weiss, who plays on the women's water polo team, was killed in Isla Vista photo shoot. By 2015, school retirement number 11.
Baseball
Some Westlake players have gone on to play professional baseball, including Matt Franco, Kevin Howard, Mike Lieberthal, Mike Nickeas, and Christian Yelich. Westlake had never won a Southern CIF title, but played in championship games in 1998 and 2001.
Football
Westlake has maintained a successful football program. In 1989, Jim Benkert became head coach of football at Westlake. The Benkert administration at Westlake produced four CIF Southern Section championships - in 1999, 2003, 2009, 2011 - and 226 victories. In 2015, Benkert announced he would leave Westlake for local Oaks Christian School rivals. In 2015, Tony Henney becomes the new head coach of football. Several professional soccer players have played in the WHS, including Billy Miller, Gary Wellman, Rudy Carpenter, and Mike Seidman.
Golf
Westlake has had a successful golf team. In 2014, the Westlake High School men's golf team won the CIF California State High School Championship. By 2015, the men's golf team re-won the CIF/CGA State Championship, becoming the first school ever to win a back-to-back country title in California.
Soccer
In the late 1980s, Eric Wynalda and Cobi Jones played on the children's soccer team. In the 1986-87 season, Jones and Wynalda helped the team post a 22-2-2 record and lead them into the semifinals of the 4th Division South Division play-off.
