A falling sand game is a kind of video game particle simulation. They allow users to place particles of various elements on "canvas". Particles can interact with other particles in various ways, and may be affected by gravity, in some games. Many complex effects can be achieved. Many versions of Falling Sand Games have been written since its introduction in 2005.

Fitur

Although various sand games have differences, they have many similar characteristics:

Tools

All games have customizable pen sizes. Some allow users to choose different pens.

Element

Many sand games that fall include some elements that are heavier or lighter than each other and can interact. For example, BHOL is a virtual black hole in The Powder Toy.

Sandbox

Downloadable games also have the ability to store "sandboxes", or images that can be uploaded to an image hosting website and then downloaded and played in the game.

  • The Sandbox has an online crossplatform gallery where people can share their creations.
  • The Powder Toy/Game has an online 'save' where people can see the creations of others, and usually play with them.

Modding/Plugins

More commonly found in self-downloadable games, mods or plugins can be created by using scripting or by editing configuration files that control various types of particles, their physical properties and their interaction rules. For example, The Powder Toy has modding through a separate executable and Lua scripting.

Physics

Most sand games use very simple physics: the particles fall, rise, or repair, and can drift from side to side. The Powder Game and The Powder Toy are two of the few games with more realistic physics, including wind and pressure. The Powder Toy also includes ambiental heat and heat, newton gravity, and water distribution. The Sandbox includes dynamic lighting, weather, temperature with the support of room temperature and multi particle elements.

Man (or Human-Like Person)

Some Falling Sand games have elements intended to represent humans, or to create a resemblance to them.

  • The sandbox uses elements that are literally called humans, who after placement you can decide their role in the society you create.
  • The Powder Toy uses elements that have fixed positions as "spawn points" for human elements, called STKM and SKM2 (stickman and stickman 2). It acts as a permanent starting place for stickman, and can not be destroyed and can not be interfered.
  • The Powder Game also has a controllable human known as Player. They both have two legs and one head. Box for first player and circle for second player. They also gain the ability of the elements touched by their head or the ability to shoot them. He also has AI Humans called fighters who jump over and attack the men's 'players' sticks. They also have two legs and a shady square head. They are mostly used as Antagonists in Game.

Multi-Particle Elements

The Sandbox has dozens of elements made of more than one particle. It even has controlled vehicles and AI-controlled characters.
