History
Founder and creator Mark Kirkland claims he came up with the idea for Candwich when he drank a can of soda with a cake, and wondered if he could sell the cake in a can from the vending machine. In 2003, Kirkland received a patent to place food and non-food items within a can to distribute from a vending machine. and also found that the military has developed a process for stable bread on the shelf. Mark One Foods, LLC was formed in 2009 to market and produce Candwich. In 2010, the US Securities and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit against Travis L. Wright, a money manager who raised $ 145 million to invest in Mark One Foods, among other companies, when Wright had told investors that the money was for real estate investment.. Wright has invested about $ 1 million into Mark One Foods. Wright is not part of Mark One Foods, just an investor, and the company is not accused of making a mistake. The Candwich is also being marketed for disaster preparedness and assistance. On July 9, 2010, Stephen Colbert featured Candwich in an episode of The Colbert Report.

In November 2011, the only flavors available were "Peanut Butter and Jelly - Wine", though the website claims that "Peanut and Jelly - Strawberry Jam" and "Barbecue Chicken" will be offered. Other potential ideas include a pepperoni pizza pocket, French toast, and cinnamon rolls. A can of "Peanut Butter and Jelly - Grapes" can contain "small hoagie rolls, a packet of peanut butter, a pack of jelly, a plastic knife and a hand towel" and a slice of Laffy Taffy. The Candwich has a one year shelf life. The Candwich is available online and at 7-11 stores in Salt Lake City, UT. Starting September 15, 2016, Candwich can be pre-booked through a crowdfunding campaign at Indiegogo.
