Design
The Traverse name was originally used for concept cars at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but the concept gave way when the Chevrolet Equinox was launched for the 2005 model year. The Traverse production design is inspired by the 2005 Chevrolet Sequel concept, and has a chevron-shaped grille similar to the Chevrolet Malibu 2008. The Traverse has unique metal sheets that are different from other Lambda crossovers, with the exception of doors.
Marketing
The Traverse is part of a product placement by GM in the drama NBC My Own Worst Enemy , along with the new Chevrolet Camaro; the show was canceled in mid-November 2008. The vehicle also appeared on the remake of Hawaii Five-0 and The Mentalist .
The Traverse is also used in Minnie Van Service along with Lyft at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Gothic black colors from Chevrolet Traverse are commonly used by federal agents, such as the Secret Service.

Second generation (2018-present)
On January 9, 2017, General Motors launched its second generation Traverse at the 2017 North American International Automotive Exhibition in Detroit. Introduced as a 2018 model, it goes on sale in July 2017. While Chevrolet makes vehicles available in North America, plans include expanding Traverse to the Middle East, and selecting South American countries. The Traverse was launched into the Russian market in 2018.
The updated Traverse left the egg-shaped design and now adopts a more truck-like design, similar to Tahoe, while taking a few cues from the now mid-sized Acadia, with the Chevrolet front grille design. It remains an 8-seat passenger vehicle (or 7 optional seats).
