The flapwheel's flexibility is the advantage of smoothing curved work and avoiding the production of aspects, such as rigid disk problems. This is taken further advantage with the development of bounded foam flapwheels. It uses fewer flaps, separated by a flexible foam spacer. This makes it more pliable, making it more suitable for producing smooth finishes on curved surfaces.
