History
On November 22, 1905, wildcatters, Robert Galbreath and Frank Chesley (along with, by some accounts, Charles Colcord), drilling for oil on a farm owned by Indian Creek Ida E. Glenn, created the first gusher oil in what will soon be is known. as "Glenn Pool". The discovery triggered a growth boom for the area, bringing in mobs: lease buyers, manufacturers, millionaires, laborers, tool suppliers, drunks, swindlers, and journalists. Daily production soon exceeded 120,000 barrels (19,000 m 3 ). The nearby town of Tulsa benefits from production, and Glenpool calls itself the city that makes Tulsa famous.
In 1906, the Glenn settlement, consisting of twelve families, had grown up nearby. That year, the Midland Valley Train extended the path from Jenks. By 1907, nearly 3,000 people had moved to the area, but only about 500 people actually lived in the city in 1910. Many were tapped and a post office opened on 31 January 1908. The new community was renamed Glenpool .
Some time after the discovery, Ida Glenn and her husband, Robert, sold their farm and moved to California.
The population grew to 428 in 1920, but then declined to 280 in 1950. A post-World War II building explosion then pushed the population upward to 353 in 1960. During the 1970s and 1980s, urbanization of Tulsa City reached Glenpool, and the town became the outskirts of the bedrooms. This has grown ever since. In 1970, the population increased to 770, then to 2,706 in 1980.
The annual celebration called "Black Gold Days" is a 3 day family friendly event with food, music, arts and crafts, carnivals and parades. It commemorates the early years of Glenpool's history.

Glenn Pool Oil Field
Galbreath and Chesley have used their own money to pay for oil drilling rigs, with operators, and rent on the land of Ida Glenn. On November 22, 1905, they had drilled through the Sand Red Sand, the most famous production sand in the area with no striking oil. There is a small stream of natural gas at a depth of 1,450 feet (440 m), so they decide to drill deeper. A few meters down, the rig found a formation known as Bartlesville Sand, where Chesley noticed the first traces of oil on the drill bit. The well began to make a gurgling sound and immediately issued a clear burst over the crane. The well soon produced more than 75 barrels per day of light and sweet crude. Galbreath and Chesley named the well Ida Glenn Number 1. In 1906, Galbreath drilled another well about 300 feet (91 m) from Ida Glenn Number 1. This well is also a producer.
Others rushed to the area to start drilling, and soon determined the extent of the fields. Rental rates and drilling services increased sharply. Less than two percent of wildcat wells fail to produce oil. Some Creek landowners started earning as much as a million dollars a year from royalties on production from their 160 acre plot. According to one source, "... more money generated from the explosion of Oklahoma oil than the California gold invasion and the combined silver fever."
After just one year, the Glenn Pool field has 127 completed wells. Of these, 107 produce oil, 12 only find gas and 11 dry holes. In addition, 24 more wells are in process and 33 locations are being prepared for drilling. In 1907, the field was further controlled by three companies: Texaco, Gulf Oil Company and Prairie Oil and Gas. Galbreath and Chesley are ready to continue. They sold their Glenn Pool ownership to Edgar Crosbie for $ 500,000 and $ 200,000, respectively.
Ida Glenn Well was plugged and abandoned in 1964. Glen Pool Field still produces a relatively small oil flow in the 21st century using waterflood techniques. During his lifetime, the field has produced more than 340 million barrels of oil.
