Roast beef is a roasted beef dish in the oven. Basically prepared as a main meal, leftovers are often used in sandwiches and sometimes used to make hashes. In the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia, roast beef is one of the traditionally presented meats on Sunday dinners, although it is also often served as cold chunks at grocery stores, usually in sandwiches. A traditional dish for grilled meat is a Yorkshire pudding.

Roast beef is a typical British national dish and has a cultural significance for the British from the 1731 ballad "The Roast Beef of Old England". This dish is very synonymous with the English and its cooking methods from the 18th century that the French nickname for English is "les Rosbifs".
