Plot
Noeli is a young Dominican woman who works as a companion for tourists. He has a three-year relationship with Anne (Geraldine Chaplin) a much older French woman who buys her services. Despite the fact that they have a transactional relationship Anne loves Noeli and Noeli are planning to use her to get a visa to go to France from where she hopes to go to Barcelona to reconnect with her mother who has immigrated there..
While with Anne, Noeli sees her boyfriend with another girl in a club. He was angry with her when Anne was in the restroom, but Anne saw the tail end of their fight. Anne leaves the club and Noeli tries to stop him going. However, when it was clear that all Noeli wanted was for Anne to pay their bar tab, Anne slapped Noeli and left. On the way home, Noeli had a motorcycle accident and his motorcycle was stolen from him because he was injured on the side of the road.
Anne struggled for a few days because she had not heard from Noeli and thought she had left her. Meanwhile Noeli does not want to go back to Anne and tell her boyfriend to start providing for them. When the money runs out he returns to Anne and tells her that she is pregnant. Anne accompanies her to get an ultrasound to see if her unborn child is injured and together they see a sonogram. After their reunion, Anne displays Noeli with her passport and visa so they can go to France together. He confesses to a friend that he does not believe that Noeli will be happy in Paris and they will be able to return to the Dominican Republic soon.
Noeli's girlfriend finds out she's pregnant and plans to have children abroad. He asks her to stay and she refuses to go ahead with preparations to go with Anne.
The night of his departure, Noeli's girlfriend came to visit him. Noeli collected his passport, money and paper, and left Anne asleep. He and his girlfriend go and he tells her that he loves her.

Development
Directors of GuzmÃÆ'án and CÃÆ'árdenas base their script on Sand Dollars novel by Jean-Noel Pancrazi. The original script, like the novel, is about two people, but the director rewrote the script to present two women after Geraldine Chaplin expressed interest in appearing in the film.
Yanet Mojica never acted before to appear in the movie but was chosen based on the close resemblance of his life to the character he describes.
