The Oaks Mall is a closed shopping center located in Gainesville, Florida, USA It has 901,000 square feet (83,700 m 2 ) of a grossly recognizable area, and is a shopping center region located at 6419 W. Newberry Road (State Road 26), Gainesville, Florida. The anchors include Belk, Dillard, JCPenney, and Sears, with one last empty anchor occupied by Macy's which will soon become the site of the second Dillard.
The mall is owned by General Growth Properties (51% stake) and Canadian property developer Ivanhoe Cambridge (49%), with General Growth Properties managing the mall on behalf of the company. The mall itself is located on just one floor, but all the anchors have two floors with the exception of JCPenney.
This mall serves a huge trading area that stretches to 11 districts with population growth rates almost double the national average. The center also benefits from its proximity to more than 64,000 students attending the University of Florida and Santa Fe College nearby. By 2017, the mall's occupancy rate reaches 96% of the 900,000 square foot retail space, and improvements continue, including the installation of top-roof solar panels, and LED lighting fixtures.
The mall has several shops for the younger generation including American Eagle Outfitters, Hollister, AÃÆ' Â © ropostale, Hot Topic, and Buckle.
The adjacent shopping center contains Toys "R" Us (closing May 2018), Oaks Mall Plaza, purchased by South Management and Development Boca Raton, Florida in 2004 for $ 12.23 million.
On January 4, 2018, Macy announced it would close its location, formerly Burdines and Maas Brothers, at the mall as part of a plan to close 11 stores nationwide. Liquidation sales began on January 8 and lasted until March 2018. Dillard has announced plans for expansion into space while retaining anchor anchor location in the mall to offer a wide range of merchandise with plans to open in November 2018. On April 20, 2018, it was announced that Sears will also close their store at the mall as part of a plan to close 24 stores nationwide. The store will close in July 2018.
